The Policy Leader Fellowship (PLF) at the European University Institute’s (EUI) Florence School of Transnational Governance (STG) provides a one-of-a-kind living opportunity for mid-career professionals from around the world to conduct research on issues of policy in an academic setting. This fellowship is intended for persons from a variety of policy disciplines, including politics, civil service, media, and non-governmental organizations, who wish to improve their professional abilities and participate to international policy conversations.

Eligibility Criteria For EUI Policy Leader Fellowship
- Professional Experience: Applicants should have at least ten years of relevant work experience and show potential for future achievement in a specialized policy field. Candidates with an entirely educational background are less likely to be considered, as the fellowship highlights practical policy experience.
- Educational Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English at the C1, which is the level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is expected. While an English certificate is not necessary for application, successful candidates may be asked to submit proof upon selection.
- Personal Attributes: The fellowship is looking for self-motivated, open-minded, and interested people who are prepared to participate in peer conversations beyond their field of expertise.

Application Deadline for EUI Policy Leader Fellowship
• Applications must be sent online by January 24, 2025 (14:00 CET). Early registration is recommended to give the references enough time to finish their letters. After submission, changes are not allowed.
Fellowship Duration and Residence
- Duration: Fellows can choose between a five-month term (September 2025 – January 2026 or February 2026 – June 2026) or a ten-month term (September 2025 – June 2026).
- Residence Requirement: Fellows must live in Florence for the term of their fellowship to actively participate in EUI/STG activities. Short visits outside of Florence are permissible, but the fellowship cannot be completed remotely.
Financial Support for EUI Policy Leader Fellowship
- Grant: A basic grant of €2,500 per month is provided. If fellows receive additional income, the fellowship amount may be adjusted, with a minimum of €1,750 per month.
- Family Allowances:
- Up to €300 per month for a partner residing in Florence with an income below €2,000 per month.
- €200 per month for each dependent child, with specific conditions applied.
- Travel Expenses: Reimbursement up to €1,200 for round-trip travel to and from Florence. Taxi expenses are not reimbursed.
Selection Process
Approximately 20-25 fellowships are awarded per academic year. The selection procedure consists of eligibility checks, examination by a Selection Committee, and final decisions by the EUI Executive Committee. Applicants are notified of the results within four months following the application deadline.
